Artist Statement

Artist Statement

While creating art, I feel a responsibility to myself as well as community. So, some of the art I create deals with social issues. Some of the major themes I deal with are: consumerism, war, human rights, religion, and sexuality. With America as the dominant superpower it is I believe that much of this power goes rampantly unchecked. Therefore I find it increasingly important to play the role of the activist through my work. Hopefully, some of my pieces will cause people to at least ponder on the issues that affect us worldwide. However, much of my work is also very introspective and therefore subjective, but I hope to infuse it with certain archetypes, hopefully, to make it more objective and relatable on a universal scope. The human psyche and condition is full of ambiguous nooks and crannies, which can only be experienced and explained abstractly at best. Therefore, a viewer’s initial uninhibited feelings are paramount to the experience that art is. It all comes down to experiencing the tug on the subconscious that viewing and making art creates.
